Clients often ask us for advice on how to posh up their living space without breaking the bank.
Unique accent pieces and colour is generally the first thought that comes to mind when we decide on how to spruce up a home.
We suggest using multipurpose furniture that adds décor and yet conceals junk at the same time. Lately our go-to item has been the decorative trunk.
Unlike other trunks that are pushed into the back of the closet or kept in the basement, these trunks are often kept out in a room to be shown off as a decorative piece.
Whether you are a space-deprived apartment dweller needing extra storage or an edgy decorator wanting an authentic collector feel, a decorative trunk can give you individual style, flair and a place to keep your possessions.
A trunk is a fabulous way to store extra stuff, and coffee table trunks can add that added touch of old world charm or modern elegance to any living room.
Trunks and cedar chests are often used in bedrooms, but they can also be used in the living room in the center of a furniture grouping. Use them for storing extra blankets, books, toys or anything else requiring a home when not in use.
You could use a trunk as a bedside table, place it at the foot of your bed or you could even put a television on it.
Decorative trunks come in many shapes, from natural wood to vibrant colours, and they can be found to match virtually any style: wicker trunks, vintage inspired cigar leather trunks or old India charm trunks embellished with iron or brass detail.
If only we had known that my grandmother’s old blue steel trunk could have become a decorative item years later, we would have never encouraged her to discard it.
Whether your style is vintage or classic, a trunk can add character to any room so go out and buy one today and put some junk in that trunk.
