What do you get when you mix a heaping helping of sultry pop singer, a spoonful of Black Eyed Peas and a dash of Bollywood dancing?
Why, star actress Priyanka Chopra’s video for her first international single “In My City,” naturally.
According to a recent interview, Chopra, who first launched the track in the fall of 2012, made it a point to feature some desi moves in the video’s dance sequences.
“I wanted to give it an Indian flavour in terms of dancing. I wanted the world to see what Bollywood is all about,” Priyanka said at the unveiling of the video in Mumbai, India Tuesday.
Chopra worked closely with international pop superstar’s Lady Gaga’s creative team both on the music and the video. Black Eyed Pea will.i.am is a guest vocalist on the track.
Chopra first debuted the single in the U.S. at the begining of the country’s 2012-2013 NFL season, when it ran as the theme song on the television program “Thursday Night Football,” which airs on the NFL Network.
The actress, who last starred in the 2012 hit comedy film “Barfi!,” revealed that the first person to see her music video was her father.
“I showed the video to my dad first. He is not well and has been in the hospital for a while now. He really liked it specially the ‘namaste’ which I do in the song,” Chopra said.
The actress says she is still trying to understand her style of music.
“I am still trying to understand my style. I think it is a fusion and amalgamation, which will be enjoyed in the West and India,” she said.
Asked whether she would like to sing for her own films, Chopra said: “This is just the beginning. I am waiting for the entire album to come out first,” she said.
