Chennai, Dec 1 (IANS) Japanese-Indian car joint venture Toyota Kirloskar Motor Saturday said its sales volumes declined by 26 percent last month as compared to November 2011.
The company last month sold 10,352 units as against 13,956 in November last year.
While the company’s utility vehicles – Innova, Fortuner – registered increased volumes last month as against November 2011, overall sales were dragged down by lower volumes of Etios series.
“The sales have dropped due to a plant shutdown, to ramp up the annual production capacity from 210,000 units to 310,00 units, for the next calendar year,” said Sandeep Singh, deputy managing direcotr (Marketing).
“The first plant manufacturing Innova and Fortuner was shut down for a week and the second plant manufacturing Etios, Etios Liva and Camry was shut down for 15 days,” he said.
The market is yet to pick up pace. “We hope to see growth due to the year ending sales. The market is expected to grow in the first quarter of next year,” he added.
