Former Canadian porn queen Sunny Leone stirs Bollywood

After featuring in erotic thriller Jism 2, Indo-Canadian porn star-turned-actress Sunny Leone is eyeing family drama and says her next could be from the same genre.

“Yes, definitely I am looking forward to a family drama. I want to do a family- oriented film. Hopefully, if things fall in place, my next would be a light-hearted comedy and a family drama,” Sunny told IANS.

“A few directors have approached me with different roles for family drama. Talks are on but I can’t revel much at this point of time. But I am really looking forward to a family drama,” added the actress whose second film after debut vehicle Jism 2 is Ragini MMS 2, a sequel to 2011 scary movie Ragini MMS.

To be directed by Pawan Kripalani and produced by Ekta Kapoor, Ragini MMS 2 will reportedly be based on a real life incident, just like the first film.

“My second film Ragini MMS 2 will go on the floors in January 2013. It’s a horror movie and it’s going to be very scary. I have been reading the script scene by scene and all I can say is that it’s going to be very scary. I heard the music of the film. It’s awesome. The film is going to be more commercial,” said the Indo-Canadian porn star.

Leone said her husband Daniel Weber is also getting Hindi film offers.

“My husband has been getting good proposals from this industry. There are few people who have approached him and want both of us together in a film,” Sunny told IANS.

“He would love to be in a Bollywood movie and it’s just an idea, which he is considering and might take it forward. He is open to it. It will be fun to see both of us together,” she added.

Weber, who used to be an adult film star, is currently managing Sunny’s company, Sun-Lust Productions in the U.S., which makes adult films.

Sunny admits she reads all the scripts offered to her, but the final decision is taken collectively by her and her husband.

“I read my scripts and meet the directors and producers. It would look weird if he reads the script and takes a call and I am not involved in it. Both of us take the decision whether to work in a film or not,” the 31-year-old said.

“My full concentration is now on Bollywood. I want to do different and all kinds of roles, especially playing meaningful characters. I want to establish myself as a successful mainstream actress,” Sunny told IANS.

Born to a Punjabi family in Ontario, Canada, Sunny has been one of the superstars of the international adult film industry since 2001. Her popularity as a porn star earned her the rare achievement of being named among the world’s top 12 porn stars by fashion magazine Maxim in 2010.

But Sunny, who’s participated in several reality shows in the U.S., struck gold when she was spotted by veteran Mahesh Bhatt in the reality show Bigg Boss 5 and was offered the lead role in Jism 2, the sequel to 2003 film Jism.

Sunny, who received rave reviews for her portrayal of Izna in Jism 2, is not perplexed about constant comparisons of her image as a porn star and an actress.

When asked whether it hurts when people look at her more as a porn star rather than an actor, Sunny said: “Everybody can have their own perception and their own way to look at everything. I can’t change that.

“There will be people who won’t like me and there are people who have given me love and support. Since I’m an actress, people should judge me according to my acting skills,” said Sunny, who on numerous occasions, has reiterated that she is not ashamed of her primary profession.

In the erotic thriller Jism 2, Sunny played a porn star, who is used as a lure for catching a dreaded assassin.

She admits her background helped her bag the role.

“Actually they were looking for an actress who was comfortable with her body, okay with erotic scenes, and didn’t have any problem in projecting herself as a porn star and that’s where I come in,” she said.
