CHIT CHAAT: Dare to go bare with barefoot sandals

Want to keep the barefoot feeling as we head into the fall/winter months? We have good news for you.

Introducing barefoot sandals for indoor wear, to dress up any plain pump and, really, to stir things up for the holiday season too.

What are barefoot sandals, you ask. Well, as any fashionista can tell you, they are fashion footwear for your bare feet.

These sandals without soles are essentially a combination of a toe ring and an anklet. These fashionable ribbons slip onto the second toe and come up over the foot and tie around the ankle or a little higher up the calf, depending on the style that is chosen.

They fit all sizes and come in various designs, from casual crocheted ones to the ultimate blinged-out styles. You can find them embellished with rhinestones or pearls, or adorned with seashells if you prefer the bohemian beach look – why not take that look into the fall?

Barefoot sandals can complement any outfit and, best of all, they are really comfortable to wear.

So whether you want to dress up your office look or evening wear (imagine the entrance you would make into any hall or dance floor), this year’s most innovative and easy accessory guarantees to be a hot conversation starter.

This trend actually originated from our good old motherland, India. Barefoot sandals today are a modern interpretation of the former princess warrior anklets or bridal foot ornaments that women in India have been wearing for centuries.

So where exactly would you wear this barefoot décor? The answer is anywhere and everywhere you want: on the beach, on a boat, or poolside. Perfect for a wedding on the sand, or dancing somewhere all night when your feet just can’t stand being in heels any more.

So with fall weather approaching, and the fluorescent pedicured toes of the summer becoming a faint memory, you may think that these barefoot sandals would be gone with the days at the beach. But not if you are Desi, as these barefoot accessories are perfect for those house parties where you cannot wear shoes. Have you ever gone to a house party or dinner, where you had to take off your shoes and it just took away from your overall appearance? Sometimes a dress is just not the same unless you have a li’l something on your feet.

And, if you are like the majority of Desi households you know that wearing shoes in the house is strictly taboo. Who cares if you spent hours perfecting the look of your outfit with the perfect pair of stilettos that will make your style complete – the aunty who is hosting the party sure doesn’t care and there is no way she is allowing any sort of shoes on her fancy, freshly vacuumed carpets with the vertical vacuum markings still on display.

But if you are like most shoe-loving women out there, you can attest to the fact that shoes make an outfit! So, if you can’t wear shoes, pull out your barefoot sandals and keep rocking your style.

All this talk of shoes brings to mind the famous Sex in the City episode called “A Woman’s Right to Shoes” in which Carrie goes to a house party where she is begrudgingly made to take her shoes off before stepping into the house. Not only is this abnormal for most Westerners, it is especially devastating for Carrie as she just bought these very expensive shoes and she most definitely does not want to take them off as she is a firm believer in shoes making or breaking an outfit.

Anyways, steering away from the topic of Carrie’s Manonlos … if you can’t wear normal footwear to a brown person’s home or to the temple or to that beach wedding …here’s the next best thing that will have all the women (and all the men … let’s not forget foot fetishes, lol) swooning.

And if you are really creative you can even wear them with shoes for some added flair. Barefoot sandals are a great addition to the perfect party dress or cropped jeans, anywhere you can go barefoot.
