Lucknow, Jan 1 (IANS) The ashes of the Delhi gang-rape victim were immersed in the Ganga at Bharauli ghat in Ballia in Uttar Pradesh Tuesday.
Her ashes were carried in an urn by her father, accompanied by her family. The entire village joined the procession from her ancestral home to the ghat.
The procession, which began at 8 a.m., was joined by mourners from nearby villages.
The woman’s ashes were flown to Babatpur Airport in Varanasi from New Delhi Monday, from where the family drove down to their village in a taxi.
The 23-year-old woman was brutally raped by six men in a moving bus in south Delhi Dec 16. She died in a Singapore hospital Dec 29.
