Don’t burn crackers near electric installations: BSES

New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) Urging Delhiites to ensure a safe Diwali, officials from power distribution companies Friday appealed to the people not to burn crackers near electric installations.

“We appeal to consumers not to burn crackers near electricity infrastructure, a misplaced spark from fire-crackers can ignite a fire, leading to outages,” a statement from BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) stated.

The power discoms said that it is an offence to cause any harm or damage to the electricity infrastructure.

According to power discoms, if a grid catches fire, power supply to around one lakh consumers can be affected.

If an overhead line of 33/66 KV capacity is affected, power supply to around 10,000 consumers would be affected, and in case of an 11 KV line, power supply to around 2,500 consumers would be hit.

The power discoms also stated that they are geared up to provide fool-proof power supply during the festive season.

“We ensure uninterrupted power supply and are ready to tackle any power-related emergency during the festival season,” an official said.
