CHIT CHAAT: “Doing It Daddy-Style!” – Daddy baby showers for the father to be

Daddy baby showers are the newest trend hitting the baby shower scene these days….not only are expecting fathers wanting to be included in the traditional baby shower, some are even going as far as having their own separate showers also referred to as a “Man Shower”, “Baby-Q” or “Daddy-To-Be Party”.

Normally men get left out of this tradition, but with gender roles becoming more equal these days, so is parenting and hence the celebration of the impending birth. Since men these days are expected to participate in everything else such as the late night feedings, diaper changes and everyday chores that come along with having a baby, it makes perfect sense to include the fathers in the pre-birth celebration as well.

Here are some shower ideas to do it daddy-style:

  • Invite his friends and close co-workers
  • Include guy food like pizza, wings and beer
  • Get the men to participate in games such as, who can set up a crib, fold down the stroller, change a diaper or drink beer from a baby bottle the fastest.
  • Have the shower in a venue where they can either go play a round of golf afterwards, shoot some pool or watch a game.

And obviously a shower is not complete without gifts to honour the man of the hour so here are some gift ideas for the dad-to-be for his man shower:

  1. A Dude Diaper Bag.  A messenger bag especially for the dad, something manly in plaid, navy or black.
  2. Daddy/Baby Swag: Matching clothes for daddy and baby, team jerseys or hats etc.
  3. Daddy Diaper Duty Tool Kit which would include items such as, scrubs, rubber gloves, nose plugs, turkey baster, wipes, and diapers.
  4. Daddy Personalized Items: T-shirts, hats, ties, coffee cups or beer mugs, key-chains, mouse-pads, bumper stickers etc. with funny slogans such as,  “The Man Behind the Belly”, “The Impregnator”, “She’s Eating for 2, I’m Drinking for 3”,“Daddy in Training”, “Of all the Names I’ve Been Called, Daddy is the Best” etc.
  5. Tickets to a game or some sporting event or concert.
  6. Personalized gift baskets such as, BBQ sets and sauces, Beer and Barware, Golf Gear etc.
  7. Gift Certificates to his favorite restaurant or bar or home-made coupons for a free car-wash, lawn mowing or baby-sitting etc.
  8. Books on Pregnancy written especially for the dad such as, “Father Knows Best” which comes in a three-volume boxed set or “The New Dad’s Survival Guide: Man-to-Man Advice for First-Time Fathers”.
  9. Nice watch or jewelry that is personalized and symbolizes a new beginning.
  10. Camera or camcorder to record all the precious moments to come.
