New Delhi, Jan 22 (IANS) Greater understanding of the northeastern region is needed as it is a pivotal part of India’s Look-East policy, Human Resource Development Minister M.M. Pallam Raju said Tuesday.
“Northeast is strategically located, and is an important part of our Look East policy. It is important that northeastern regions converge more and more in the life of India,” Raju said after inaugurating the new premises of the Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research at Jamia Millia Islamia here.
Commending the centre for the research its undertaking, Raju said research and applied theory was the way for better integration of the northeast region with the rest of the country.
Referring to the incidents of discrimination with students of northeast region, Raju said it was unacceptable.
“Prejudice is unacceptable in any form, towards any group in any place…,” he said.
The Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research is three years old, and has been conducting research on several issues relating to northeastern region, which has been the centre of several conflicts.
