This tiny tot with a huge tumour on his backside that weighs almost as much as he does looks set to get a life-saving operation after donations flooded in to pay for treatment.

The boy is the son of Lin Meng, 23, who met the boy’s father 25-year-old You Shen after he moved to  Shishi city in southeast China’s Fujian province with his parents You Yin and her husband Yuan Daping.

The three members of the family decided to start a new life in the city because they couldn’t get work at their home in southwest China’s Guizhou province. All three found work, and the families happiness seemed complete when You Shen met Lin Meng and then got pregnant.

According to the boy’s grandmother You Yin, there was no indication during the pregnancy that the was a problem. But once the boy was born, his mother had been told that he had a tumour the size of a fist on his backside.

You Yin said: “She waited until she was discharged from hospital, and then sneaked out in the night and never came back. She was unhappy about the boy’s deformity but we were shocked that she just decided to abandon him – he is such a sweet child. We spent all of the money we had on treatment and borrowed money as well. Went to many hospitals most of which were unable to help and all the time the tumour kept getting bigger.”

But after the tumour reached a certain diameter the story was picked up by local media, and after the publicity, a hospital was found that agreed to take the boy and treat him. Many offers flooded in to help pay the costs of the hospital visit.

And staff at Quanzhou Children’s Hospital have accepted the youngster for an operation. They say that the tumour can almost certainly be safely removed with surgery and afterwards the youngster is likely to make a full recovery.

In the meantime they are still looking for funds but estimate it shouldn’t be long before everything goes ahead.
