An American family is pleading with Indian officials to return the body of their daughter who was killed in a motorcycle accident in Goa on Saturday, WCVB Boston has reported.

According to Alan and Roberta Waters of Framingham, Mass., they need to bring home the body of their 28-year-old daughter Paula so she can be buried immediately — in keeping with their Jewish faith — but they aren’t having any success with the country’s officials.

“We have to get her home, we have to get arrangements made here, we have to get her buried and then we have to commence our seven days and 30 days of mourning,” Alan Waters told WCVB.

The family is working with rabbis both locally and in India to try and get their daughter home.

The U.S. State Department has also said it’s working with its counterparts in India to expedite the return of Paula’s remains, according to WCVB.

“Secretary of State John Kerry extends his sympathies to Alan and Roberta Waters and the rest of their family,” said Glenn Johnson, a senior Kerry adviser. “As the father of two daughters, [Kerry] can especially empathize with their loss, grief at this time, and interest in bringing Paula home as soon as possible.”

According to Paula’s Facebook page, she attended school in Boston and was living in Rajasthan, India.
