An international Hindu group is urging major airports across the globe – including Vancouver – to provide yoga facilities to help reduce passenger stress.

According to a release from Nevada, U.S. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed,  the Hindu community applauded the recent addition of yoga rooms in airports in the United States, including Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, San Francisco International Airport and Burlington International Airport Vermont.

San Francisco’s yoga room is described as “space devoted to relaxation, self-reflection and practicing yoga,” according to the release. Dallas/Forth Worth’s is described as a “yoga studio” equipped with mats, while Burlington’s “yoga space”  provides a room to stretch and relax, as well as a family bathroom and shower.

In the release, Zed urged other global cities to follow, like Singapore Changi, Incheon (South Korea) International,  Amsterdam Schiphol, Hong Kong International, Beijing Capital International,  Munich, Zurich, Vancouver International, Tokyo (Haneda) International,  London Heathrow.

Providing yoga would help “reduce (passenger) stress levels and (create) ‘world class’ airports,” said Zed.

“Although introduced and nourished by Hinduism, yoga was a world heritage and liberation powerhouse to be utilized by all,” he said.
