New Delhi, Feb 9 (IANS) More than 200 people came together in the capital Saturday to support and encourage cancer patients and survivors in the country.
Organised by the Cancer Sahyog, a unit of Indian Cancer Society, the event aimed at celebrating life after cancer on the occasion of Cancer Survivors Day.
A poetry reading session by noted poet Surendra Sharma and a performance by classical singer Alka Sheel, a cancer survivor, were organised on the occasion.
“There is surely life after cancer and the patients can survive if the cancer is detected early and treated on time,” said Seema Gulati, secretary of the Cancer Sahyog.
The Cancer Sahyog also set up mobile camps to conduct free medical tests to detect cancer.
Renuka Prasad, a breast cancer survivor, said she was happy to meet other survivors and share with them her story. “If your family is supportive and you have a strong will, you can get over this phase,” Prasad said.
