President launches Akash 2 tablet

New Delhi, Nov 11 (IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee Sunday unveiled the low-cost Akash Tablet 2 equipped with advanced features for students of engineering colleges and universities.

Priced at Rs.1,130, the new version of the tablet will also be made available to 10,000 teachers to allow live video interaction with students.

“IIT Bombay along with the Ministry of Human Resource Development has created several useful educational applications for the tablet,” said a government statement.

“Teachers and students in the remotest corners of India can join a classroom and benefit from lectures delivered by the best teachers,” it stated.

Union Minister of Human Resource Development M.M. Pallam Raju, and Ministers of State for Human Resource Development Jitin Prasada and Shashi Tharoor were present on the occasion.
