Moscow, Nov 12 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russia will will dispatch two airplanes worth of necessities to victims of the hurricane Sandy that ravaged the US East Coast.
To be dispatched by the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, the two Il-76 cargo jets will depart for New York from Moscow’s Ramenskoye Airport Monday, carrying over 50 tonnes of humanitarian help between them, the ministry said on its website.
The statement did not elaborate on what kind of help will be proffered to hurricane-hit Americans.
Last week, the ministry had sent 30 tonnes of food, construction materials and other essentials to Cuba, one of several Caribbean countries to take the first blow from Sandy.
Sandy’s passing over the East Coast late last month resulted in 191 fatalities and caused damage estimated at some $50 billion, with New York and New Jersey being the worst-hit areas in the US.
