Although she gets to wear the crown, Miss Tibet 2013 Tenzing Lhamo admits she wanted a little more competition.

“She was excited about the pageant, but after she was informed that there were no other applications, she replied: “That is quite sad there won’t be a competition. I was looking forward to a fun competition,” said the pageant’s producer-director, Lobsang Wangyal, said in a statement.

Lhamo — a U.S. resident and the contest’s lone participant — was crowned Wednesday during a brief ceremony in Bangalore, India. The title gives her the the right to represent Tibet in international beauty pageants.

Historically, Miss Tibet is considered a political vehicle as well as a pageant.

“We dedicate the new Miss Tibet to the Tibetan heroes who sacrificed themselves because of their love for freedom in Tibet. Nearly 100 Tibetans have set themselves on fire since 2009,” Wangyal said.
