Bollywood starlet Priyanka Chopra has just been announced as the new face of American clothing line, Guess, according to ELLE Magazine.

The clothing line is known for launching the careers of beauties like Claudia Schiffer, Anna Nicole Smith and Kate Upton, so with Chopra as the new – and first ever Indian – face the line is breaking ground, ELLE reports.

“I’m their first brown model. For a global fashion brand, for them to move their campaign into a global space, for me it’s an honour,” Chopra told Women’s Wear Daily. “Guess pictures are so iconic. They show women as beautiful, feminine, powerful and yet candid. But being the next Guess girl was something that I would have never thought of, but when I met Paul [Marciano, co-founder of Guess] he was like, ‘You’re it. It has to be you.’”

According to Chopra’s Twitter page she was in New York City Monday for the launch of her Guess campaign. She also posted a few sneak peeks from her photo shoot, which can be found on her Instagram page here.

Chopra, 31, first gained stardom when she was crowned Miss India and Miss World in 2000 and since then she’s starred in 28 movies, won 11 awards for her performances, has a successful singing career and is now one of Bollywood’s highest paid actresses.

According to ELLE, Chopra was photographed by singer Bryan Adams for Guess: ‘When we met, we were just like a house on fire. The vibe was like a young Sophia Loren. I wanted to play characters, and I wanted to be in the mood. I wanted every picture to speak of a story.’

Chopra is reported to first appear as the new face of Guess in international December issues of Harper’s Bazaar, Nylon, Paper, ELLE and WSJ magazines.
