New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS) Five people, including two state-level boxers and an under-16 state-level wrestler, who robbed a man of Rs.17.50 lakh and later clicked his objectionable photographs to extort more money from him in future, were nabbed in the capital, said police Sunday.
Farmer Ramesh Dahiya (35), 20-year-old housewife Lalita, a 15-year-old state-level wrestler and two state-level boxers – Amit (21) and Pawan (20) – were arrested Saturday night from west Delhi’s Kanjhawala.
The minor is a Class 10 student and has been participating in under under-16 state- level wrestling.
“One of the gang members, posing as a policeman, stopped the car of property dealer Joginder Singh Sep 1 in west Delhi’s Narela ostensibly for checking. The victim was later overpowered by the other accused at gun point. The accused took him to a secluded place where they robbed him of Rs.17.50 lakh,” said M.A. Rizvi, additional deputy commissioner of police.
Rizvi further stated that to extort more money from Joginder Singh, 47, the accused also forcibly took his objectionable photographs with Lalita, a gang member, and later abandoned him on the road.
“Their greed for money landed the accused in police custody Saturday when they came to collect an extortion amount of Rs.4 lakh from the victim after making a threatening call to him Sep 14 saying that they would make public his objectionable pictures if he did not pay,” said the officer.
The Rs.4 lakh extortion money, two cars and another Rs.46,000 in cash were recovered from the possession of the accused.
