New Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS) BJP MPs Prakash Javadekar and Rajiv Pratap Rudy have given a breach of privilege notice against Commerce and Industries Minister Anand Sharma to Rajya Sabha chairman Hamid Ansari over “false promise” on foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi−brand retail.
Sources said the members have said the government went ahead with its plan to allow 51 percent FDI in multi−brand retail despite an assurance in parliament that the decision would remain in abeyance till a consensus was arrived at after consultation with parties and state governments.
The BJP leaders said Sharma had given the assurance on behalf of the government.
BJP maintains that despite making this promise in both houses of parliament, the government went ahead unilaterally to allow 51 percent FDI in multi−brand retail.
