New Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS) The Delhi government Friday said a panel would be constituted to check the sale of autorickshaws on the black market in the capital.
“Strict action would be taken against those found involved,” Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami said here.
He said the transport department would form a special team to ensure that autorickshaws are purchased in substantial numbers in the wake of the Supreme Court lifting the cap of 55,000 autorickshaw permits in the capital.
Goswami said the government, as directed by the apex court, would issue 45,000 additional autorickshaw permits and that the government would not tolerate any irregularity, including high interest rates on autorickshaw loans.
“Any irregularity would be treated as an obstacle in the implementation of the Supreme Court orders,” the minister said.
Last year, the Delhi government requested the Supreme Court to lift the cap of 55,000 autorickshaw permits imposed in the capital in order to allow additional 45,000 autorickshaws on the city roads.
