New Delhi, Dec 15 (IANS) A drug racket which was partly-financed by a banned Manipuri terror outfit was busted here and three people, including a former Assam Rifles trooper, were arrested, police said Saturday. Nearly 100 kg of pseudo-ephedrine drug was seized.
John Lalmingthanga, 35, an ex-trooper of Assam Rifles and Ashem Danny Singh, 32, both from Manipur, and Lalawmpuia, 27, from Mizoram, were arrested Thursday from west Delhi’s Janakpuri, police said.
According to police, the outlawed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup of Manipur was partly financing the racket through associate Lalmingthanga, who was based in Delhi.
“We got information that a group of Manipuris and some Delhiites were smuggling drugs from Delhi to Manipur,” said a police official.
Lalmingthanga was arrested when he came to deliver a consignment of drugs to Singh in Janakpuri. The pseudo-ephedrine drug seized by police could be used for preparing party drugs like ‘ecstacy’ and ‘ice’.
“As per the revelations made by the duo, a raid was conducted on a unit in Janakpuri where the gang used to pack the drugs. We recovered seven lakh tablets of the drug and arrested the third associate (Lalawmpuia),” said the official.
The unit was used for storing as well as packing the drugs before being trafficked to the northeastern states, Myanmar and China, police said.
