Ghaziabad, Nov 23 (IANS) Ghaziabad’s jewellery sellers shut their shops for the second day Friday in protest after burglars stole valuables worth about Rs.1 crore from a shop here Wednesday night.
Jewellery Market Association general secretary Gaurav Garg said that in the last week over a dozen stray dogs were found dead in the streets. It was suspected that prior to the robbery, the burglars administered poisonous substance in food to the stray dogs.
Ashima Sharma, People For Animal (PFA) activist, has sought an autopsy of the dogs.
Police said burglars cut three gates leading to Radhey Lal and Sons Jewellers. They also cut wires of CCTV cameras before decamping with cash, jewellery and diamonds.
“The value of the articles is assessed at Rs.1 crore,” said Mohit Singhal, son of the owner of the shop, Ravindra Singhal.
“We have recovered three cylinders, a tarpaulin, a cord and some other tools from the spot. There were at least two burglars. A case has being registered,” said Superintendent of Police (City) Shiv Shankar Yadav.
