Government hiding true economic condition: Dasgupta

Mumbai, Nov 26 (IANS) Communist Party of India leader Gurudas Dasgupta Monday said that the politico−economic situation of the country is not “dismal but extremely bad” but the government is keeping everyone in dark.

Speaking ahead of the 40th edition of the three−day National Conference of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) starting Tuesday, the parliamentarian and the general secretary of the trade body said: “The economic scenario is not dismal but extremely bad. The government wants to keep everybody in dark. In the meet, we want to raise issues concerning masses and working class.”

Dasgupta, however, conceded that the Left parties “for some reasons failed to provide an alternative political plank to the masses despite being politically most credible”.

“The politico−economic situation is muddied with uncertainty, inflation, recession and scams. Left parties, despite having credibility amongst the masses, have somewhere down the line failed in providing an alternative,” he said.

Dasgupta said that the national conference aims to address issues related to the rule of corporate houses and multinationals, which are actually run by those in the ruling party.

He also said that AITUC in its 40th edition will resolve to organise the unorganised sector while launching a massive struggle to strengthen the organised sector in service and manufacturing industry.

Dasgupta also said that the national conference will oppose contract labour system and outsourcing policies responsible for increased exploitation and poverty of the toiling masses.
