India summons Pakistan envoy to complain about Kashmir attack that killed 2 India troops

NEW DELHI — India has summoned Pakistan’s top diplomat in New Delhi to formally complain about an attack on an Indian army patrol in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir that killed two soldiers and left their bodies mutilated.

On Wednesday, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the government of Pakistan was asked to “immediately investigate these actions that are in contravention of all norms of international conduct and ensure that these do not recur.”

India says Pakistani troops crossed the cease-fire line Tuesday to attack the Indian soldiers before retreating.

The outbreak of violence was the second in three days in Kashmir, where a cease-fire between the two wary, nuclear-armed rivals has largely held for a decade. On Sunday a Pakistani soldier was shot in the same area.
