Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and other Bollywood stars coming to Vancouver for SLAM 2014 (w/gallery)

On the heels of the success of the Times of India Film Awards, another Bollywood gala is coming to Vancouver.

SLAM 2014, which claims to be Indian Cinema’s biggest global music extravaganza, promises glitz and glamour with Bollywood’s top stars slated to perform at the PNE Coliseum in Vancouver on September 27.

Bollywood fans will get an opportunity to watch their favourite actors Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandez, Boman Irani, Abhishek Bachchan, Sushmita Sen and Sonu Sood in action, SLAM spokesman Harpreet Singh said in a media release.

Choreographer Farah Khan, who is directing the show, will work her magic with the stars while singing sensations Yo-yo Honey Singh and Kanika Kapoor will entertain the audience with their hit songs.

Shah Rukh Khan, the Badshah of Bollywood, rocked the stage during the TOIFA last year with his performance on Challa ki labh da phire from ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ and Chamak Challo from ‘Ra. One’.

He is the second richest actor in the world only after comedian Jerry Seinfeld. With many awards and honours to his name, Khan was recently conferred the Knight of the Legion of Honour by France for his contribution to cinema.

He’s well known for films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, My Name is Khan and Pardes, parts of which were shot in Vancouver.

Actress Deepika Padukone, voted FHM India’s sexiest woman in the world 2014, has established herself as one of the most successful and popular celebrities in India’s film industry. Her films Chennai Express, starring Khan in the lead, was one of the highest grossing flicks in 2013.

Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez will soon be seen in Bollywood film Kick, opposite Salman Khan, and has made her space and name in India over the last couple of years.

Actor and son of megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek is well known for his cop role in the Dhoom franchise.

Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen has sizzled Bollywood over the years with performances in Filhaal, Main Hoon Naa and her item number in Fiza.

Comedian Boman Irani is known for his films Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. and 3 Idiots.

Bollywood villain Sonu Sood, a Mr India pageant contestant, will be seen in forthcoming Shah Rukh Khan production Happy New Year.

While rapper Yo-yo Honey Singh has made a big name for himself in Bollywood recently, he is well known for his songs Blue Eyes and Char Bottle Vodka, among others.

U.K. rapper Kanika Kapoor zoomed in on fame in India with Canadian adult movie star Sunny Leone’s item song in the film ‘Ragini MMS 2′.

The three to four-hour program will entertain Vancouver in a way never experienced before, Singh told Vancouver Desi. “There has never been a Bollywood entertainment show on this scale in Vancouver apart from the TOIFA,” he said.

A 130-strong cast and crew will be flown in for the event and will showcase state-of-the-art production, mind-blowing visuals and stunning costume changes.

The event is being organized by Verka Foods and DBR Entertainment in Vancouver, Singh said. SLAM extravaganza will then move on to San Jose on September 28.
