You’ve heard her songs and seen her on reality shows. Now Bollywood singing sensation Shreya Ghoshal is all set to take you on a musical journey right here in Vancouver.

Ghoshal will perform at the iconic Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver on Aug. 30.

The concert promises not only a mix of old and new Bollywood classics sung by Ghoshal, but also contemporary Indian dancing — Shiamak style — and some fun on the red carpet, said organizer Kamal Sharma, president of Kamal Video Palace and KVP Entertainers.

“Each and every song Shreya has recently sung is super hit,” Sharma told Vancouver Desi. “I’m sure she will be singing all her latest songs including Sun Raha Hai Tu from Ashiqui 2, Hangover from the movie Kick and some old classics.”

Shiamak’s team, which created a buzz after the TOIFA in Vancouver last year, will be opening the show with a 15-minute act, Sharma said. “The sheer energy of their (Shiamak’s dance team) performance is sure to dazzle all Bollywood lovers in the audience.”

The evening will be made extra special for the audience with the first ever South Asian Red Carpet event at Queen Elizabeth Theatre, where Ghoshal’s fans will be photographed and handed a copy as keepsake, Sharma said.

This is the second time Sharma has organized a concert night with Ghoshal, who won her first national award with debut song Bairi Piya from the film Devdas at age 16. She performed at a 2010 sold-out show, which was also at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, he said.

Sharma has been organizing entertainment shows in Metro Vancouver for the last 20 years. Bollywood greats like Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor have performed in the past at his shows at the PNE, Orpheum Theatre, River Rock Casino and Queen Elizabeth Theatre. He has also arranged many musical nights with famous Bollywood and Pakistani singers like Sonu Nigam, Daler Mehndi, Anup Jalota, Pankaj Udhas, Ghulam Ali, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Amanat Ali.

For every sold-out show, Sharma has donated $1 per ticket to a charity and promises the same for the upcoming event. Over the years, Sharma has given to charities like B.C. Children’s Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital and World Partnership Walk after shows with singers Sonu Nigam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and a special show dedicated to late Bollywood singer/actor Kishore Kumar.

While Ghoshal’s show is already generating a lot of interest, Sharma said he has already started planning another show with Bollywood’s Ismaili musicians Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant.

“The Ismaili Council will be making an announcement about the program soon,” Sharma said.

A portion from the proceeds of the Salim-Sulaiman show will go to the Aga Khan Foundation, a charitable foundation that supports social development programs in Asia and Africa.
