A retired Indian soldier’s alleged refusal to shave off his luxuriant twirled moustache cost him his ear in a Bihar town.

Ramanuj Verma told the police that brothers Nanku Yadav and Bina Yadav stopped him, when he was on way to his native Kauriya village in Patna district on Monday evening. The duo allegedly told him he had no business to sport a twirled moustache.

A fight ensued. The brothers called a few of their friends and all joined in assaulting Verma, according to his complaint.

“During the fight, Bina cut my ear. They then took my bike and other belongings and fled,” the former soldier told the police.

Bihta police station SHO Sanjit Kumar Sinha said that according to Verma’s complaint, a sharp weapon was used in slicing off his left ear.

It was learnt that Verma and the brothers had fallen out of a friendship recently over some disagreement.

Verma, who had recently retired and taken a new job outside the village, did not take the assault lying down. Sinha said the former soldier had broken the jaw of one of the assailants.

Along with the Yadav brothers, some of their accomplices have been named in the first information report that was filed on Wednesday, Sinha said, adding the accused have not filed a counter complaint.
