A jilted woman’s plot  to hire medical hitmen to inject her ex-lover’s manhood with drugs intended to make him impotent for life went wrong when he accidentally died.

Sarita Malhotra, 27, planned to disrupt her former lover’s marriage to another woman in Bhopal, a city in central India, by making a scene. After that failed, she hired a gang to first beat up her the man and then hired medics at a local hospital to inject him in his private parts with drugs when he arrived at the emergency ward. But the beating went too far, and the young man was stabbed to death by the gang.

Police said the woman was inspired in her plot by the recent case of a bride in India who was shot dead on her wedding day by a cousin who loved her.

After hearing about that case, Sarita hired the thugs who ambushed Vijay Khadke, 26, a resident of the Nariyalkheda neighbourhood in Bhopal, while he was on his way to work.

“The original plot was for the four hoodlums to thrash Vijay and leave him critically injured,” said police. “Then the plan was for others in hospital to inject his manhood with drugs that would leave him impotent.”

Sarita paid the men about $160 for the plot. Messages on her mobile phone confirmed that she was behind the scheme.

She and Vijay had been dating for two years. She wanted to marry him but he said his family would not accept her and so he broke off the relationship.

He married someone else in May, triggering Sarita’s vengeance plan that went awry after one of the hired thugs drew a knife and ended his life.

Sarita, who is the daughter of a retired servicemen, reportedly confessed to her crime, police said, adding that on the day of incident the accused woman had talked to Vijay on his mobile one last time.
