An Indian man murdered his son and daughter Wednesday by throwing them into a well after his two wives objected to him getting married a third time, the Times of India reported.

D Velu, 45, a truck driver in southern India’s Ulundurpet village, had a son V Veeramuthu, 6, and daughter V Priya, 8, from his first wife V Chitra and two sons Veeramani , 4, and Vishnu, 10-month-old, from his second wife V Karupayee.

According to TOI, Velu went to his second wife in Pookanalavadi village after an argument with Chitra about the third marriage two days ago. He took Veeramuthu and Priya with him.

Karupayee also objected to the marriage leading to a quarrel Wednesday, police said.

Enraged with the strong objections from both his wives, Velu took Priya, Veeramuthu and Veeramani from the house Wednesday night when Karupayee was sleeping and threw them into the well. The driver then fled the scene.

While Priya and Veeramani drowned in the well, Veeramuthu was rescued by the villagers after he clung onto a pipe and his cries alerted a passerby, the TOI reported.

The villagers informed the police about the incident, who then registered a case against Velu and have launched a hunt for him.
