A 13-year-old boy in India who is worshipped as a god for a seven-inch tail protruding from his back is considering removing the appendage because of its affect on his health, according to Britain’s Daily Mail.

Punjab’s Arshid Ali Khan has been confined to a wheelchair for most of his life due to an undiagnosed disorder. According to the Daily Star, some doctors believe his inability to walk is due to brittle bones, while others believe it’s due to the tail.

However, the community has revered Arshid as a reincarnation of the Hindu monkey god Hanuman.

“This tail has been given to me by God. I am worshipped because I pray to god and the wishes of people come true,” Arshid told the Daily Mail.

According to the British tabloid, Arshid’s home, where he lives with his grandfather Iqbal Qureshi, has been converted into a temple where the young boy’s devotees visit to receive blessings and touch his tail.

“A lot of people’s wishes have come true after they have visited,’ Qureshi told the Daily Mail. “Sometimes there are childless couples who come to (Arshid) for help. He blesses them, and often they are then able to conceive.”

And while Arshid is scheduled to see a doctor this month who claims he can remove the tail, Arshid believes his devotees will still remain faithful if he undergoes the surgery.

“Doctors can remove my tail – but people will continue to believe in me,” he said.
