Indian estate agents are rushing to prepare offers after comedian Russell Brand said he was keen to acquire a home in India.

The actor, who got married to his former wife Katy Perry in Jaipur, said in Los Angeles that he wanted to spend six months a year in the country. And after it was revealed that the 38-year-old actor is currently on the lookout for an estate, he has been flooded with offers.

“Russell consulted his Indian guru early this year about the idea and is now making noise about buying an estate or plantation in India,” an official told the Indian IANS news agency.

“He wants to be closer to his various spiritual, dietary and heath guides in the country and is telling pals that he would like to spend as much as six months out of the year in India,” the source added.

The actor split from Katy after just 14 months of marriage in December 2011 and is said to be ready to turn his back on Hollywood in favour of a literary career.

The source added, “He will probably rent a home there before he puts down the millions he would need to buy a place that meets what he is looking for, but he’s serious about this move, arguably more so than his movie career.”

The move now triggered a property rush in India with real estate owners offering a wide range of villas, some of them close to the Ganges in northern Uttarakhand state, to the actor via estate agents or directly.

“We have messaged his office, we have some exciting properties near the Ganges in the northern Indian hills,” says Ashish Kumar of Supertech Builders.

Amit Singh of MagicBricks.com said in an interview that they have also written to the actor, offering options of homes in the hills.

“Those are the best properties for him to sit and pen his books,” he said.

Jugal Kishore, who is a real estate operator in India’s eastern West Bengal state, said Brand could visit Kolkata and stay near the Ganges.

“He would love the peaceful atmosphere,” Kishore said, adding his company, India Property, has been in touch with Brand’s office but was still awaiting a reply.
