New Delhi, Nov 30 (IANS) A Jan Sansad (People’s Assembly) here Friday released a manifesto demanding resolutions from the government on anti-corruption Lokpal bill, grievance redressal bill and the whistleblower bill.
“We’ll hand over these resolutions to parliament and each political party so that the demands are met,” activist Aruna Roy told reporters on the fifth day of the assembly at Jantar Mantar.
Putting forward demands of various people’s movements and organisations taking part in the Jan Sansad, activists said the protest would be taken to each village “to awaken people before the 2014 general elections”.
The activists also demanded strict punishment for perpetrators of sexual assault, child abuse and rape — whether the crime took place in police custody, prison, shelter home or orphanage.
They sought appointment of more judges for speedy disposal of cases of atrocities against women and reservation for Dalit women in executive, judiciary and media.
Others present at the assembly were trade unionist Baba Adhav, All India Democratic Women Association president Subhashini Ali, National Federation of Indian Women general secretary Annie Raja.
