Lucknow, Nov 12 (IANS) Poet and activist Kumar Vishwas, a close aide of activist-politician Arvind Kejriwal, has filed a police complaint in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district alleging threats to his life.
He filed the complaint late Sunday after a group of youngsters came to his house in Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, around 5.30 p.m. and told him that they wished to join the anti-graft movement. However, they fled on seeing a television crew in the house, Vishwas said in a complaint lodged with the Indirapuram police station late Sunday.
“I heard commotion outside my house and when I came out to find out what the issue was, a group of youngsters told me that they wished to join the movement,” Vishwas told IANS Monday.
“These guys came in a Skoda car and spoke very roughly to me. The way they spoke to me was certainly hostile and intimidating,” he said.
At the time of the incident, former BJP legislator Roop Kumar Chowdhary and India Against Corruption IAC activist Sanjay Singh were present at Vishwas’ house. “Sanjay Singh asked the youth to go to our Kaushambi office,” the poet-activist said.
After the youths left, Vishwas joined a conversation with a television crew present in his house. However, a few minutes later his driver told him that the men were back, but this time their number had swelled.
The youths fled after they spotted the television crew in the house, according to Vishwas.
“There were three cars – a Skoda, a Swift and a Honda city, two bearing Uttar Pradesh numbers and one of Delhi,” the poet said, adding that the whole act appeared to be a “threat of sorts”.
“I discussed it with Arvind Kejriwal and he suggested that I file a police complaint.”
Indirapuram police station chief Gorakhnath Yadav said: “We have received a complaint and we will look into the matter.”
Vishwas also said that a few days ago he had received a threatening call from a Baroda landline number “asking me to mend my ways or face trouble”.
