Patna, Dec 25 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Tuesday said that martial art training will not only empower girls, but also work as a deterrent against molesters.
“Martial art training is must for girls to empower them. It will also work as a deterrent against molesters and eve-teasers,” he said at inaugural function of the 31st senior National Taekwondo championship here.
Nitish Kumar reiterated that he always favoured martial art training for girls. “In Bihar, the state government has trained more than one lakh school girls in martial art till date,” he said, adding girls should be provided martial art training across the country along with education.
“The girls should learn martial arts like judo, karate and taekwondo to attain physical strength and alertness for self-defence when confronted with eve-teasers,” he said.
A day after he favoured setting up of fast-track courts for trial of rape cases, Nitish Kumar said that stern punishment should be given to rapists.
He also justified the angry protests in Delhi and many other parts of the country against gang-rape of a 23-year-old woman in a moving bus in New Delhi was a clear sign that people are fed up with the existing system.
