Mumbai police are looking into a local restaurant’s use of a drone to deliver pizza, according to the Press Trust of India.

In a viral video posted by Francesco Pizzeria, the drone’s test flight is documented as the robot takes off with a freshly baked pizza, flies over central Mumbai streets and delivers it to a man in a high-rise building.

According to PTI, the video – which has flooded social media – has now come to the attention of city police who are now looking for an explanation from the restaurant as to why it didn’t report to the authorities before it used the “unmanned drone.” Police also plan to get in touch with Air Traffic Control (ATC) to see whether Franceso’s Pizzeria notified them.

“After studying all the aspects, we will decide the future course of action,” Madhukar Pandey, additional police commissioner told PTI. ”We are very sensitive towards anything that flies in the sky with the help of remote control.”

“We will certainly ask the outlet’s administration as to why it did not inform us before carrying out this experiment. We also seek full details pertaining to the drone test.”

The restaurant’s drone delivery was the first for India, but according to PTI with terror threats lingering over the bustling city, unmanned drones or paragliding equipment often raise the alarm of police – on holidays like Independence Day or Republic Day certain areas in the city are declared “no flying zones,” as a result.

Mikhel Rajani of Francesco’s Pizzeria said while the May 11 special delivery was only a test flight, he hopes the method is something his restaurant can routinely use – as a way to avoid Mumbai’s snarling traffic jams – in the coming years.
