A Muslim priest who forced a 12-year-old family member to have sex with him has been mutilated by having his ears and nose cut off when the girl’s dad found out about the incident.

Local media said that Syed Ahmad, 48, was a “close relative” of the girl he had raped, but did not say what the relationship was.

The attack however that happened three months ago had caused a massive rift in the family living in the northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan.

The 12-year-old girl’s parents had demanded Ahmad, a Mullah Imam in a local mosque, be punished but after nothing happened, the girl’s father had taken the law into his own hands.

They reportedly burst into a flat where Ahmad was carrying out a wedding ceremony and grabbed him, pinning him down and slicing off his ears and nose before fleeing with their trophies.

Provincial police spokesman Jawid Basharat confirmed to Afghan news wire service khaama.com that the incident took place last night in a residential house during a wedding ceremony.

Basharat further added that Ahmad had been hospitalised and his health condition was stable.

He said the family members of the girl accused of carrying out the attack had been arrested and an investigation was being carried out.

Officials in Baghlan provincial hospital had earlier confirmed that the girl had been raped, but that so far no action had been taken, until the family took the law into their own hands.

The girl was reportedly raped by Syed Ahmad around three months ago, and the father of the girl has confessed that he severed the ears and nose belonging to the man as punishment for raping his child.
