Members of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) have decided to boycott a three-day NRI Conference being held in Punjab Jan. 3-6, 2013, reports a story in the Hindustan Times.

“The current law and order of the State, the drug menace, one-sided functioning of the Legislative Assembly, Speaker’s discriminatory role against Congress, led to the decision,” said IOC executive committee members Kulbir Singh Thind, Joginder Singh Dhillon and Arun Bhandari in a joint release issued on Friday.

IOC president Vikram Bajwa had sent a request to 156 NRI organizations across the globe, including members of the India Caucus, MPs in Canada and the UK, the Indo-U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Indo-Canadian Commerce Association, Walmart, Infosys, IBM, American Nuclear Technology Inc., and others to boycott the conference.
