HOMICIDE: New Westminster man killed in targeted shooting identified

Homicide investigators have confirmed a shooting in New Westminster Thursday morning was a targeted killing.
Sam Balani, 32, was found by police suffering from gunshot wounds in a rented basement suite on Colby Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Investigators have been processing the crime scene overnight and into the day and can say this suspicious death has been confirmed as a targeted homicide,” Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Friday in a news release.
Balani had been in court several times in the past decade. In 2009, he was charged with several firearms offences. He also faced several driving-related offences in different Fraser Valley communities, including Hope, Mission and Langley.
There have been several targeted shootings in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley in recent weeks.
