KARACHI – Pakistani media is reporting that beloved comedian Sikandar Sanam has died at the age of 45 from liver cancer.
According to a tribute in the Express Tribune, Sanam, who started his career as Muhammad Sikander, always found inspiration in his late father Syed Abdul Sattar Shoqeen Jetpuri — a well-known Gujrati poet.
The article continues, saying the comedian, who was laid to rest on Monday afternoon in Nawabshah, came from a family of artists and always wanted to be a singer. He was known for his voice at school but when he entered the Karachi theatre scene, he realized his strength actually lied in comedy.
Sanam was diagnosed with liver cancer nine weeks ago. He fell ill during a performance on Eid and was taken to Aga Khan Hospital for treatment. After he sought the treatment of local healers in his hometown of Nawabshah, where he passed.
Sikandar Sanam was one of the rare comedians to have come out from the Karachi theatre scene. He was best known for his satires of popular Indian films.
