A middle-aged woman who allegedly faced an attempted rape in Punjab’s Nawanshahr district has died due to injuries received during the assault, police said Friday.
The victim was seriously injured Wednesday when her neighbour in Chak Bilga village in Nawanshahr district, Kamaljit Singh, allegedly attempted to rape her.
As she resisted, the accused strangulated her. She was taken to a government hospital in Banga town in a critical condition and succumbed to her injuries in hospital Friday, police sources said.
Police have booked Kamajit for murder but not registered a case of attempt to rape.
Nawanshahr town is 80 km from here.
In another case in Fatehgarh Sahib district, 60 km from here, a 14-year-old girl alleged that she was raped by a truck driver.
Police arrested the truck driver, Kaka Singh, following a complaint by the victim.
Another incident of a middle-aged, mentally-challenged woman being raped by a father-son duo has come to light in Nawanshahr district. The victim was being violated for nearly four years by the duo, a relative told police in his complaint.
Police have registered a case at Rahon police station.
