SAHR concerned over rising sectarian violence in Pakistan
Mumbai, Jan 15 (IANS) The South Asians for Human Rights (SAHR) group Tuesday expressed concern over recurring incidents of sectarian violence in Pakistan which is daily seeing targeting people on the basis of their faith.
In a statement, the SAHR said the first 10 days of January saw two major attacks on members of the Shia community in Balochistan province, including those from the Hazara community, that led to the death of around 100 people.
“The fact that banned sectarian groups openly claim responsibility and the government appears helpless or unwilling to act against them is a sad commentary on the state of callous disregard for human life,” the statement said.
It said the unchecked growth of religious militancy has affected the work of NGOs, civil society and human rights defenders.
