Kolkata, Sep 12 (IANS) The Samajwadi Party will contest the next Lok Sabha elections on its own in Uttar Pradesh, party general secretary Mohan Singh said after moving the political resolution on day one of the SP’s national executive meeting here Wednesday.
“In our state (Uttar Pradesh), we will fight the coming Lok Sabha polls on our own. There will be no alliance with any other political party in UP,” Singh said.
Describing the Congress as “corrupt” and the BJP as “communal”, Singh said under no circumstances would the SP have any tie-up with corrupt or communal forces.
He said that going by the assembly poll results earlier this year, the SP was ahead of others in 50 of the state’s 80 Lok Sabha constituencies.
He said in the 2014 general elections, people would reject the Congress, with the BJP also not getting the “expected support”.
“We will fight the next polls depending on (party chief) Mulayam Singh Yadav’s personality and philosophy and (UP chief minister) Akhilesh Yadav’s performance,” he said.
