Ask and you shall receive.

This at least came to fruition for one man in Sri Lanka after he asked Google for his country’s very own Google doodle for Sri Lanka Independence Day on Monday.

Google’s website describes Google doodles as changes to the Google logo that can either be spontaneous or in celebration of holidays, anniversaries or the lives of famous artists or pioneers.

And the special Google doodle for the Sri Lankan site, google.lk, on Feb. 4 was a stylized red lion inside the letter G alongside the country’s other national colours, green and yellow.

The request for the doodle came in on Jan. 9 from a man named Buddhika Nuwan.

“I know that Google is bringing out a specific Google doodle for the Independence Day of most of the countries. Since February 04th is Sri Lanka’s Independence Day we would like to have a special Google doodle on www.google.lk,” Nuwan wrote in a request on Google product forums.

On the same day someone from the Google team responded, telling Nuwan to send them his ideas, so Nuwan submitted a concept for the design, created by a Sri Lankan graphic designer.

And by Feb. 4, the design was on display and could be viewed not only on the google.lk home page across the world, but also on the google.com home pages viewed in Sri Lanka, according to Sri Lanka’s Times Online.

The appreciation appeared to be widespread, as nearly 100 responses flooded in to the forum from Sri Lankans thanking Nuwan and Google for the doodle.
