Terror suspect pleads guilty in phoney plot to blow up Federal Reserve Bank in New York

NEW YORK — A 21-year-old Bangladeshi man has pleaded guilty to terrorism charges for trying to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank in New York.
Investigators say Quazi Nafis selected his target, drove a van loaded with 1,000 pounds (453 kilograms) of dummy explosives up to the door of the bank and tried to set off what he thought was a bomb. Investigators say he used a cellphone he thought had been rigged as a detonator.
But it was all fake. It was an undercover sting operation by federal officials.
Nafis was charged in October.
His family in Bangladesh says he was incapable of such actions and came to the U.S. only to study.
