Many Bollywood beauties have known fame and glamour even before stepping into Bolly-town.

While some divas had beauty titles on their achievement lists even before they flourished in the Hindi film industry, others made their debut and failed to create a space for themselves.

Here’s a list of Bollywood actresses who were beauty queens:

Priyanka Chopra was the winner of the Miss World pageant of 2000. She started her career in Bollywood with The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003) in 2002. Her hits include ‘Don’ opposite superstar Shah Rukh Khan and ‘Dostana’ with Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham among others. She was highly appreciated for her recent film Mary Kom.

Aishwarya Rai, who was the winner of the Miss World pageant of 1994, made her Bollywood debut in ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’. She went on to film superhits like ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Dhoom 2′, ‘Devdas’ and emotional drama ‘Provoked’. Her comeback film, Jazbaa, which goes on the floors later this year is already creating flutter in the industry.

Neha Dhupia, the winner of the Femina Miss India in 2002, did some very hot roles in Bollywood films ‘Julie’ and ‘Qayamat’. She is currently mentoring Kingfisher calendar models for a show on NDTV Goodtimes.

Juhi Chawla was crowned Miss India in 1984 and made her Bollywood debut with ‘Qayamat se Qayamat Tak’ along with Aamir Khan and the pair was seen in many other films together like ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke’ and ‘Ishq’.

Jacqueline Fernandez won Miss Sri Lanka Universe in 2006 and landed a role in Bollywood movie Aladin in 2009 with megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh and Sanjay Dutt. This beauty will be soon sharing screen space with Hollywood superstar Jackie Chan.

Sushmita Sen was crowned Miss Universe 1994 and went on to do some amazing Bollywood films like ‘Zindagi Rocks’, ‘Filhaal’, and ‘Main Hoon Naa’. Her most memorable dance number in ‘Fiza’ won many hearts.

Lara Dutta was crowned Miss Universe in 2000 but was a popular model and had worked in a number of tv commercial before making her Bollywood debut in ‘Andaaz’ in 2003. She is mentoring contestants and anchoring a new show for ‘Miss Diva Universe‘.

Celina Jaitley was Miss India 2001 and debuted opposite Fardeen Khan with ‘Janasheen’ in 2003. She has recently been voicing support for LGBTQ causes and was also seen in a UN video promoting LGBTQ rights.

Dia Mirza won Asia Pacific in the year 2000 and made a superhit debut in ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ in 2001. She is all set to marry her longtime beau Sahil Sangha on October 18.

Gul Panag won the Miss India title in 1999 and made her Bollywood debut in 2003 with ‘Dhoop’ but is best known for her classy performance in ‘Dor’. She has became active in politics and joined AAP in he last elections.

Namrata Shirodkar was crowned Miss India in 1993 and debuted with ‘Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai’ in 1998.

Bollywood actress Sangeeta Bijlani was Miss India 1980 winner and debuted with ‘Qatil’ in 1988.

Tanushree Dutta won the Femina Miss India Universe title in 2004 and entered Bollywood with three films to her credit but the one we best know her for is Aashiq Banaya Aapne: Love Takes Over in 2005.

Sarah-Jane Dias was the winner of Miss India 2007 and made her Bollywood debut last year with ‘Kyaa Super Kool Hai Hum’. She also features in the crossover movie ‘Brides Wanted’ in 2006.

Meenakshi Seshadri won the Miss India contest in 1981 at age 17. Her debut in ‘Hero’ in 1983 won her acclaim as a talented actress and she went on to do many superhit films like ‘Damini’, ‘Ghatak’, ‘Ghayal’ and ‘Pyar Ka Karz’.

Tahira Kochhar was one of the finalists for Miss India 2010 and made her Bollywood debut in ‘Rabba Main Kya Karoon’ last year.

Pooja Batra was crowned Miss India Asia-Pacific in 1993 and made an impact with her debut performance in “Virasat’ opposite Anil Kapoor but could not make it last.

Sonali Bendre was selected for the ‘Star Dust Talent Search’ before her Bollywood debut in 1994 in Naaraaz. Her most appreciated roles were opposite the three Khans – Aamir Khan in ‘Sarfarosh’, Salman Khan in ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ and Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Duplicate’. She has turned to reality TV shows and judged India’s Best Cinestars Ki Khoj.

Yukta Mookhey was crowned Miss World in December 1999. Her first major release in Bollywood was the 2002 ‘Pyaasa’ opposite Aftab Shivdasani.

Zeenat Aman  was Miss Asia Pacific in 1970 and made her entry in Bollywood with ‘HarĂ© Raama HarĂ© Krishna’ in 1971. She went on to do blockbusters like the original ‘Don’, Yaadon Ki Baaraat’, ‘Roti Kapada Aur Makaan’ and ‘The Great Gambler’.

Diana Hayden was crowned Miss World 1997 and made her Bollywood debut with ‘Tehzeeb’ and worked in one other film before giving up on Bollywood. She wrote a book called ‘A Beautiful Guide’, an “encyclopedia on grooming and personality development, released last year.

Amy Jackson won Miss Liverpool in 2010. She made her debut in Bollywood with ‘Ekk Deewana Tha’.

Nicole Faria, Miss India Earth 2010, made her debut with ‘Yaariyan’ in January this year.

Pooja Chopra was crowned Miss India 2009 and debuted with ‘Commando’ in 2013.

Richa Chadda gave up modeling and theater as soon as she got a break in Bollywood with ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ and was appreciated for the fiery portrayal of her character in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1′ and ‘Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2′.
