A Duke University student, who moonlights as porn star Belle Knox, has taken on Pakistani censors for blocking her Twitter account, according to British tabloid the Daily Mail.

Miriam Weeks, a women’s studies major at U.S.-based Duke University, is singling out Abdul Batin of Pakistan’s Telecommunication Authority (PTA), who has asked Twitter to censor accounts with blasphemy and adult content.

According to the Daily Mail, Weeks’ Belle Knox account, which contains pornographic images, has been successfully blocked by the Islamic Republic because of it s’unethical’ content and Batin has also asked for two other porn stars’ accounts to be blocked.

“I believe Mr Batin has a problem with me because for whatever reason, I am his poster child: a woman with her own agency and free expression, some icon of perceived cultural degeneration that he feels he can censor to feel better about himself,” Weeks wrote in an email to Forbes.com. “If he thinks I am a soft target, he’s going to be surprised. I stand up for sex workers, and will continue to do so because I feel that often, we’re disregarded as casualties.”

On Wednesday she also tweeted:”Shout out to all my fans in Pakistan : the PTA might not like me, but I like you!”

In its attempt to balance online freedom and its strict religious and moral codes, Pakistan has been accused of heavy-handed censorship having previously blocked Twitter and Facebook content. YouTube is also currently banned in the country.

According to the Daily Mail, Weeks was outed as Belle Knox earlier this year by a fellow classmate and has since defended her decision to work in  adult film to pay her way through school. She’s appeared on Piers Morgan Live, The View and other talk shows.
