Vancouver’s renowned Indian chef Vikram Vij has officially opened the doors to his highly anticipated South Surrey restaurant.

My Shanti, located at Morgan Crossing at Croydon Drive and 24th Avenue, offers a new blend of Vij’s outstanding Indian cuisine, drawing from his various Indian travels, with a rotating menu that will feature different Indian cities and towns.

“I wanted to open a restaurant that reflects a lot of the flavours and ingredients I’ve experienced in my years of travelling around the world,” Vij said in a release. “I’ve been to so many incredible places, and My Shanti represents a blend of ingredients and recipes I have encountered in India, as well as other international influences but still incorporating local ingredients as I have always done.”

My Shanti translates to “my peace” and the restaurant decor reflects this with its casual dining environment and outdoor summer patio.

Vij’s signature brand is already a hit in Vancouver, with his trademark Vij’s Restaurant on West 11th Avenue, his eat-in and take-out, market-style restaurant Rangoli next door and his Vij’s Railway Express food truck. While Vij has stretched beyond Vancouver’s city limits – a sister restaurant in Seattle called Shanik, as well as a couple of cookbooks and a product line sold in grocery stores – My Shanti is his first step into Surrey.

“I opened my production facility here for my Vij’s At Home frozen foods several years ago so I know Surrey very well now,” Vij said. “It has an amazing mix of people who simply appreciate great Indian food, as well as people who have travelled the world. It just made sense that I bring My Shanti to South Surrey.”

The Surrey location is Vij’s first solo venture, as Vij’s and Rangoli on South Granville are co-owned with his wife Meeru Dhalwala.
