The charge against a former Surrey temple president has again been upgraded after his wife, who suffered severe injuries in an alleged domestic dispute last week, died in hospital.

According to a tweet from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) on Monday, Baldev Singh Kalsi is now charged with second degree murder. His wife, Narinder Kaur Kalsi, was taken off life support Sunday and pronounced dead just before 4:30 p.m.

She was found by police in her home in the 19400-block 32nd Avenue on July 13 in severe medical distress and was airlifted to hospital.

Her husband, Baldev Singh Kalsi, was arrested.

The 66-year-old faces an attempted murder charge, which is now expected to be amended in light of Kalsi’s death.

News of Kalsi’s death was announced by the Gurdwara Sahib Brookside Sunday afternoon on its Facebook page.

Tributes poured in for her on social media, where she is remembered as a kind woman with a ready smile. Along with the sadness and condolences were calls for justice.

Kalsi was a regular at the temple, where her husband was also the president. He was removed from the position last week.

The couple has three adult children.
