A 22-year-old gang rape survivor who was under police protection was allegedly kidnapped, gang raped, strangled and dumped in a field in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, according to Indian news publication the Times of India (TOI).

The young girl, who was under police watch after a November 2013 gang-rape, was found in a farm field unconscious the next morning. Doctors at the hospital confirmed she was gang raped and noted severe strangulation marks on her neck.

According to the Times of India, the police officers providing security at the time of the kidnap were having dinner when they heard a commotion, but by the time they put their shoes on to check on the girl, the suspects had taken off with her. A senior police official later told TOI the kidnap never took place, the Indian news publication added.

TOI also reported that little police action has been taken since the girl’s first gang-rape in November and suggested it’s because the prime suspect is a well-known figure with political influence, Dalbir Singh. According to TOI, Singh was named in the police report, but that’s as far as the police action has gone.

The family of the survivor, who became pregnant in December, has been asking police to collect DNA samples from the accused, but police have not complied.
