LONDON — A ferocious spell of bowling by England’s Steven Finn helped reduce South Africa to 306-7 at tea on day four of the third test at Lord’s for a lead of 300.

Finn, who has 4-60, took three wickets from 29 balls to revive England’s hopes, after Hashim Amla’s elegant 121 threatened to bat the hosts out of contention.

Amla scored his 16th test century from 205 balls with 10 fours before he was bowled by Finn, who then removed AB de Villiers for 43 and Jacques Rudolph for 11.

The Proteas, who lead the series 1-0, will replace England as the top-ranked test side if they avoid defeat.
